Totex Infrastructure Partners’ management includes some of the most accomplished infrastructure experts. Understanding the entire scope of issues that affect the value of physical infrastructure assets is critical for developing an acquisition strategy and managing them post-closing. Too often, the acquirer assumes that the status quo is efficient and provides acceptable returns. We believe that additional value can be extracted in many areas, including through better data analytics and project planning; leveraging regulatory incentives; uses better construction and maintenance strategies; employing different procurement strategies (including Life Cycle Cost optimization); matching capital and maintenance investment strategies with acceptable levels of risk; and other important, but often overlooked areas.
Combining the various “new” capital, maintenance and operating strategies in partnership with current staff, consulting engineers and other strategic partners will almost always provide better absolute returns, on a risk adjusted basis. These strategies will likely impact the price paid for the acquisition, including “go or no go” based on better insight, forecasting and transparency into the infrastructure asset being considered for acquisition.
